Evonik Degussa’s Mobile Site Donates $10,000 To Theodore High School
Funds To Motivate Students, Assist Them For College, Reward Teachers
MOBILE, Ala., April 3, 2008 – Evonik Degussa Corporation, one of the largest employers in the Mobile area, has contributed $10,000 to Theodore High School under the company’s “Partner in Education” program.
It is the second year Evonik Degussa Corporation has made a significant donation to promote excellence in education at the 1,700-student school.
“This donation from Evonik Degussa Corporation is very, very welcome and very, very much appreciated. It will help us more than you can imagine,” said Ronald Rowell, Theodore High School Principal. “This money will enable us to do many great things including motivating both students and teachers to excel.”
Rowell added the $10,000 donation from Evonik Degussa Corporation couldn’t have come at a better time, particularly since area school budgets are being reduced.
“This money will allow us to reward students for perfect attendance or making all A’s and B’s on their CRTs [Criterion-Referenced Test], as well as keeping student and teacher morale high,” he continued. “We can’t use public money for such rewards, so Evonik Degussa Corporation’s donation is doubly important. With the donation, certain qualified students can take the ACT test for college more than once at no extra cost. This gives these students an opportunity to increase their test scores and possibly earn more scholarship money for college.”
Evonik Degussa Corporation is passionate about education, noted Thomas Bates, president of Evonik Degussa Corporation and Mobile site manager, adding that it is everyone’s obligation to help students learn as much as they can.
“At Evonik Degussa Corporation, we believe that learning isn’t the result of just one individual’s efforts, but the collective commitment and efforts of the entire community,” said Bates. “We all need to do whatever it takes to improve the learning of our future leaders and, in our own small way, we are trying to do that.”
With approximately 700 workers, the Evonik Degussa Corporation Mobile site is one of the area’s largest employers. This site manufactures a wide range of products that create the essentials necessary to enjoy a better standard of living today and tomorrow.
