Evonik Supports Science Education At Galena Schools

Grant From Global Innovation Leader Marks Company's New Corporate Identity

GALENA, Kansas, December 4, 2007 –  Evonik Industries, whose chemical operations were formerly known as Degussa, today presented the Columbus School District with a $500 community grant to support the District's science education programs.

Clive Whiteside, Evonik Jayhawk site manager, said the company made the donation to introduce its new identity.

The $500 grant is Evonik’s way of celebrating with its neighbors in Galena but is also a continuation of the company-wide commitment to science education, said Whiteside “Learning about the wonders of science can serve as a great inspiration for students, who may go on to be the chemists, researchers, or engineers of tomorrow,” he added.

Ken Jones, Superintendent of Columbus USD 493, said the donation by Evonik was very much appreciated by the school district and the students.

"It's an extremely generous gesture," said Jones. "We are very fortunate to have Evonik's Jayhawk plant in our school district. We look forward to being able to utilize this donation to enhance our science program."

Evonik employees have a deep commitment to science education, Whiteside said. “By supporting our educational institutions,” he said, “we are investing in the development of new scientific discoveries, future research and development researchers, and global economic advancement.”
