Evonik Supports Science Education At Calvert City Elementary School
Grant From Global Innovation Leader Marks Company's New Corporate Identity
CALVERT CITY, Ky., December 4, 2007 – Evonik Industries, whose chemical operations were formally known as Degussa, today presented the Calvert City Elementary School with a $500 community grant to support the District's science education programs.
Michael Ross, Evonik Degussa Corporation site manager, said the company made the donation to introduce its new identity.
The $500 grant is Evonik’s way of celebrating with its neighbors in Calvert City but is also a continuation of the company-wide commitment to science education, said Ross. “Learning about the wonders of science can serve as a great inspiration for students, who may go on to be the chemists, researchers, or engineers of tomorrow,” he added.
The students and teachers at Calvert City Elementary School are very appreciative of Evonik Degussa’s generosity, said Principal Phyllis O’Neal, who noted that the school is building a new science and art laboratory.
“The funds from Evonik Degussa Corporation will be used to help outfit our new lab,” she added. “Science is so important today, and we like to do a lot of ‘hands on’ experiments with our students. Evonik’s generous gift will go a long way to help us get more students interested in science. It’s important in today’s world for younger students to be introduced early on to science, because they’ll be much more interested in science when they get older.”
Evonik employees have a deep commitment to science education. “By supporting our educational institutions,” Ross said, “we are investing in the development of new scientific discoveries, future research and development researchers, and global economic advancement.”
