Degussa Goldschmidt Donates $10,000 To Three Wisconsin Schools

Gifts From Company That ‘Creates Essentials’ To Support Science

JANESVILLE, Wis., August 28, 2006 -- Degussa Goldschmidt today donated $10,000 to three area educational institutions to further science education as part of the company’s celebration of the plant’s 50 years of continuous operations in Janesville.

Dieter Bettinger, Degussa Site Manager in Janesville, said education is essential for any business, and particularly to a science-oriented company such as Degussa.

“At Degussa Goldschmidt we want to help further the development of some of the best scientific minds of the next generation,” Bettinger said.  “We need to invest in our budding scientists and researchers now, so they can create great things later on.”

Bettinger said Degussa Goldschmidt was donating:

-- $5,000 to the University of Wisconsin–Rock County;

-- $2,500 to George S. Parker High School; and,

-- $2,500 to the Joseph A. Craig High School.

School officials praised Degussa for its significant contribution.

“We thank Degussa Goldschmidt wholeheartedly for its extremely generous contribution,” said Dean Diane Pillard of the University of Wisconsin-Rock County.  “Scholarships have become essential at UW-Rock County, where more than half of our students rely on financial aid. This gift is an investment in the community for decades to come. We welcome involvement of companies in the community such as Degussa Goldschmidt, and we applaud them for their commitment to education.”

Dr. Reinhold Brand, President of Goldschmidt Chemical Corporation and Senior Vice President and General Manager of Degussa’s Care and Surface Specialties North America Business Unit, said Degussa's donations are an investment in the community – and the company’s – future.

“Degussa creates essentials and nothing is more essential than the education of our young people,” said Brand. “We consider it an important part of our corporate culture to give back to the communities who have been so supportive of us.”   Degussa Goldschmidt’s plant at 900 South Palm Street employs 76 and creates essentials used in everyday essential products such as shampoos, deodorants and shower gels.
