Degussa Donates $5,000 to Arkansas Baptist State Convention Disaster Relief

Contribution In Memory Of Glenn Loyd, An Employee Who Died Helping Others

OSCEOLA, Ark., April 25, 2007 – Degussa CYRO Industries is donating $5,000 to the Arkansas Baptist State Convention Disaster Relief in memory of Roger Glenn Loyd, a 21-year employee of the company’s Osceola, Ark., facility who died returning home after helping residents recover from a devastating ice storm.

“It is fitting that CYRO honor Glenn’s memory in a way that will help others continue the work he loved – helping those in need,” said John Rolando, President of Degussa Corporation – a wholly owned subsidiary of the Essen, Germany-based RAG Group – and President of CYRO Industries.

Rolando noted that Glenn was a member of the Arkansas Baptist State Convention Disaster Relief and spent his vacations helping others. “Many people give money to help but Glenn gave generously of himself,” said Rolando.  “He was a remarkable individual and an inspiration.  We miss Glenn tremendously and hope this small contribution to the Arkansas Baptist State Convention Disaster Relief Fund will help to continue his good works.”

Darwin Bacon, mission ministries team leader for the Arkansas Baptist State Convention, said the Degussa donation is a fitting tribute to Glenn.

“Glenn was a generous and uplifting person and this is something he would be proud of,” said Bacon.  “This very bountiful donation will help many individuals in need, just as Glenn helped numerous people in distress during his lifetime.  He would be thrilled by what Degussa is doing in his name.”

Loyd joined CYRO Industries when its Osceola, Ark., plant opened in 1986. He was admired for his technical and analytical competence as well as his creative approach to tackling problems.  In 1994, Loyd received CYRO’s Matt Taylor Award of Excellence – the highest individual honor in CYRO Industries.

“Glenn will be remembered for compassion, his energy, his generosity and his love of his fellow man,” said Peter Marks, Osceola plant manager.  “Glenn went out of his way to help people. He spent several weeks in New Orleans following Katrina – only one week was company-sponsored – and used his own vacation to help the survivors.  That was the type of man Glenn was.  He gave generously of himself to others.”

Loyd died in an accident February 3, 2007 near Ravenden, Ark.

The Southern Baptist Convention Disaster Relief helps people and communities that struggle with the effects of natural disasters by providing food, showers, and recovery efforts for those effected.
